No. 3 Salpointe beat No. 14 Trivium Prep 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Division II Beach Volleyball playoffs where the Lancers will face No. 6 Saguaro. The Lancers showed some struggle with Trivium Prep but experience pulled them through. The Sabercats, however, were pushed to the limit by No. 10 AZ College Prep in the 3-2 victory.

Saguaro fifth pair, Sophia Curtis and Paige Welchel, pulled out a 21-12, 19-21, 17-15 win over Isabelle Sung and Avery Lynn and the Sabercats needed a 19-21, 21-15, 15-10 win from the top pair of Ava Cotton and Bella Reyes over Audra Gorder and Kendall Story to secure the slim victory.

Cotton and Reyes will be the top-seeded pair in the State Pairs Tournament slated to start on April 29 and Gorder and Story are No. 6. Salpointe’s top pair, Sophia Hernandez and Megan Muehlebach are seeded No. 2 and the Lancer pair of Eleanor Sharp and Kiki Muehlebach made the tournament as an unseeded pair.

Hernandez and Mega Muehlebach beat Natalie Guerrero Ryan Poyner of Trivium Prep 21-7, 21-8 and Guerrero and Poyner will be seeded No. 4. Salpointe, Gilbert Christian, Arcadia and Mesquite are the teams that qualified two pairs for the pairs tournament.

Salpointe won the last three D-II state tournaments in a row.
