Millennium continues making noise at Section 7 Camp
June 22, 2024 by Ben Stapley, AZPreps365
In less than a 24-hour span, Millennium has taken down two of the nation's top basketball programs in front of an impressive audience of collegiate coaches and scouts from around the country.
In that same time frame, Tigers' standouts Kingston Tosi (2025) and Cameron Holmes (2026) have noticed their recruiting stock skyrocket thanks to dominating performances.
On the second day of the Section 7 basketball camp, it was Holmes turn to shine in Millenium's early game, as the 6-6 guard led the Tigers to a convincing 75-65 win over Mater Dei of Santa Ana, CA, which was already ranked No. 8 in a Maxpreps national poll for the 2024-25 season.
Holmes scored 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Millennium, which led Mater Dei for 31 of the game's 32 minutes. Tosi scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half before foul trouble limited his minutes in the second half, when he fouled out with just under five minutes remaining.
"(Kingston) was feeling it early and helped us take control of the game, so when he got into foul trouble I just had to step up towards the end of the game," Holmes said of Kingston and the Mater Dei contest.
"This is a really great event for college exposure but it's also a chance to play against some of the best teams in the country, so winning these kinds of games is great for our team and our chemistry. Everyone is stepping up at different times."
Against Mater Dei, Millennium led 22-9 after six minutes with Tosi and combining for 15 points. Three-pointers from Brayden Barrett and Tristen Rhodes kept the defense honest. Mater Dei made a run behind the sharp shooting of 6-8 junior Brannon Martinsen, closing the the Millennium lead to one point (27-26) with 5:30 left in the first half.
Millennium led 40-34 at halftime and never let Mater Dei closer than five points. Rhodes, Quincy Everson and JT Amundsen each made a pair of three point field goals for Millennium. Everson finished with 13 points.
"I love how our team is playing, because there's always ways to improve as a team, especially against top competition," Millennium coach Ty Admundsen.
Millennium faced off with Bishop Gorman out of Henderon, NV in its second game in the evening, dominating the reigning Nevada state champs, 83-57. Tosi (23 points), Holmes (18) and Everson (15) led the way for the Tigers.
Next up for Millennium will be a powereful Archbishop Riordo team from San Francisco, CA.
Tip off is 11:45 on court No. 4
One of the biggest moments for an Arizona HS basketball program. @MillenniumHoops became the first AZ team to win the toughest bracket at @Section7Az. Congrats to the Tigers for defeating Calif. Archbishop Riordan 72-58 in their title game at State Farm. pic.twitter.com/EWcXDX5O26
