Tuesday night's quarterfinal round of playoffs lived up to the hype of being a great game. No. 2 Madison Highland Prep faced off against seventh-ranked Payson High School. Payson came in on a three-game win streak with wins over Highland Prep, North Valley Christian and Blue Ridge. Madison Highland Prep, entered with its own three-game winning streak.

The first half of the match Madison Highland Prep came out strong. With 16 shots on goal, the Heat were ready to go up and go up big. Scoring three goals in the first half, Madison Highland Prep was led by two goals from Corey Osborn and one from Keelan Shardonofsky.

Payson didn’t give up and had five shots on goal themselves, but were overpowered by the strong offensive play by Madison Highland Prep. Payson continued to play tough throughout the half and had a couple of near misses on the goal that could have changed the game in the first half. Oliver Morlan, goalkeeper for the Heat, made two great saves to keep the Longhorns off the board in the first half.

In the second half, Payson came out swinging with tenacity, putting six shots on goals within the first five minutes, but none went in. Payson went throughout the second half trying to make shots fall but none found their way into the back of the net.

Payson’s defense was stellar as well, as it held Madison Highland Prep’s shots on goals down in the second half. Late in the game, Voss Sellers scored a goal with 10 minutes left off a quick play. Payson played a stellar second half but couldn’t seem to make any goals. The Longhorns' season is over and they went out with a great showing.

Madison Highland Prep will move on to the semifinal round of playoffs and will face off against No. 3 Show Low, a 4-3 winner against Highland Prep West in the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be on Halloween night at 6:00 p.m. and Madison Highland Prep will host the contest.
