Desert Christian over St. Augustine on Senior Night

Down 13-0 to Morenci after the top half of the first inning last Friday, Desert Christian went on to beat the Wildcats 17-16 on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh. That comeback victory came after losing back-to-back games to Tombstone earleir in the week by a combined score of 33-4. Such is the life of “small school” ball. Up and down.
The Eagles beat St. Augustine 15-0 on Monday to win two games in a row for the first time this season. Ranked No. 27 in the 2A Conference coming in, Desert Christian (4-6) now has the difficult task of facing No. 6 Willcox (8-2) on Wednesday and again Friday night. But that, as they say, is for another day. The Eagles celebrated their victory over No. 26 St. Augustine (7-7) by dedicating their new softball field prior to the game and recognizing their seniors after the game.
The Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the first to set the tone with junior standout Alexa Yarger hitting her 11th home run of the season in the process. Yarger went 2-2 with a home run, triple and three RBI in the victory. Lilly Craford went 2-2 with a home run and two RBI, Aimee Lloyd had a double and two RBI, Emily Welch went 2-3 with two RBI, Abby Littleton had two RBI, Kaitlyn Farias went 2-3 with an RBI and Cali Smith added a triple. Mikayla Hadges collected six strikeouts in the win.

For St. Augustine Monique Rocha, Celeste Durazo and Lulu Gamez had hits and Addie Fette took the circle for the Wolves. St. Augustine will host No. 16 Benson (6-6) on Wednesday. The top two teams in each region in the 2A Conference will earn an automatic berth to either the Play-In Tournament or the state playoffs. Teams ranked No. 9 to 24 will take part in the play-in phase on Wednesday, April 30 and the first round of the state playoffs is slated for Saturday, May 3.
