Arizona State Board of Education recognizes two outstanding students a month and San Simon senior Evelyn Lopez was selected Student of the Month for August for exemplifying character, achievement (Academics, STEM, STEAM, Arts, Sports, Extracurriculars), community/school impact, civic engagement and commerce/business.

Lopez competes in basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball and track. She has the distinction of being the scholar-athlete for every sport she has taken part in at San Simon, a 1A program near the New Mexico border. She plans to attend the University of Arizona to be a pediatric nurse.
