Salpointe over Vista Grande 52-0

Salpointe improved to 4-0 on the year after beating Vista Grande 52-0 Thursday night at home in the first year of competition for the program. The Lancers have outscored opponents 158-0 at this point with a trip to Desert View (2-2) coming on Tuesday night. The Spartans are now 1-4 on the year.

Freshman quarterback Isla Collins threw for 261 yards (23-29) with five touchdowns and she ran for 77 yards on six carries, including a 16-yard scoring run. Collins is on the USA 15-U National Team. So. Aliyah Adger collected 60 yards on four catches with a TD, Sr. Kenna Johnson pulled in 44 yards on six catches with two TDs, and Sr. Soli Ramos and Jr. Jhianae DesRosier had TD catches.

Salpointe got on the board with a 15-yard pass from Collins to DesRosier with 7:59 left in the first quarter and that held up until Alyssa Allen made a 25-yard field goal with 10:43 left in the half to put Salpointe up 10-0.

Collins hit Johnson to put Salpointe up 17-0 with 5:49 left in the half and the Lancers took a 24-0 lead at the break on a 5-yard pass from Collins to Ramos with 1:03 left.

Vista Grande quarterbacks, Jr. Aries Whittaker and Jr. Alina Valenzuela combined for 87 yards passing on 14 completions and the Spartans rushed for 30 yards but the team was unable to put a scoring drive together. Jr. Melia Robison had 40 yards receiving on seven catches and Jr. Dominique Martinez had 37 yards receiving.

The Spartans gave the ball back on downs to open the second half and then Collins cashed in on a 17-yard pass to Johnson to put Salpointe up 31-0 with 9:55 left in the third. The Spartans started a drive on the next of downs but Jr. Illiana Land came up with an interception to put the Lancers in great field position and then Collins ran the ball in from 16 yards out to put Salpointe up 38-0 with 6:10 left.

Sr. Symmone Jackson put the Lancers up 45-0 on a short run with 10:03 left in the game and Collins hit Adger from nine yards out for the 52-0 final.

The initial set of Flag Football rankings will be released on Oct. 21.
