PHOENIX – As senior night comes and goes, the Phoenix Christian Cougars volleyball team says goodbye to four special players. The leadership and commitment from one of those players will leave a big void to fill next season.
Hannah Fisher played her last game as a Cougar. Fisher gave it her all from start to finish throughout the season and was felt one last time in a clean sweep 3-0 win over Sedona Red Rock.
After the game, hugs, pictures and tears were shared between Fisher and her teammates highlighting the special bond built around the locker room.
Macie Shores, a sophomore teammate of Fisher, felt the leadership that came from being on the court with her.
“Even if we were down by 10 points, she would always find a way to keep her head up and encourage us to keep going,” Shores said.
Shores isn’t the only teammate who felt the long lasting impact of Fisher. Leah Walker also built a great friendship with the senior and enjoyed every second of being on the court with her.
“My favorite memory of Hannah is just playing with her,” Walker said. “She is a super great teammate.”
Terry Sutter, the head coach of the Cougars, praised each and every single one of his seniors. When talking about Fisher, Sutter praised her character both on and off the court from the first day he met her. Some phrases stood out that Sutter dedicated to Fisher.
“As a middle school student and athlete you left an impression beyond belief on me,” Sutter said. “You’re the ultimate captain.”
Fisher feels all the love and support from her team after completing her final season with them. There are so many people and events she will miss as she expressed after the game.
“Literally everything,” Fisher said. “Being surrounded by such amazing people and all the memories we made.”
One of the top highlights in the senior’s career was getting a chance to play with her sisters. She played one year with her older sister and last year with her younger sister as well. Fisher shared that brought their bond as siblings even closer.
Another family member made a long lasting impact on the Cougars star. Her father was one the people who made sure to keep her in check during her career.
“He has never let me go to sleep with a frown on my face after a hard game,” Fisher said. “He’s really my motivation through it all.”
The next steps of the career of a high school athlete can always be tricky. Fisher has intentions of taking her talents to the next level. She is set to visit a school in Kansas soon and make an important decision of where to continue her career.
The curtain may close on the senior’s season, but there is one play that stood out and occured moments before.
“The most memorable moment of this season I would have to say was this last point,” Fisher said. “It was sad but I’m so happy with how it ended.”
The Cougars season is officially over but the ending of it sure was special. For Fisher, she has a whole family right behind her for the rest of her life.
