Salpointe improved to 7-0 on the year after the Lancers swept through the inaugural Cactus Clash tournament held at the school and at a nearby sports facility. Made possible by Tucson Federal Credit Union, Salpointe hosted 4A powers Prescott (6-2), Mica Mountain (5-3), Kellis, Paradise Honors (5-2), 5A power Catalina Foothills (3-4) and 2024 Open Division semifinalist Pinnacle (4-3) of the 6A conference. The Lancers beat Kellis 50-40 in the championship game on Saturday after knocking off Pinnacle 41-39 on a last-second shot in the semifinals.

Freshman Jayda Nelson led the Lancers with 15 points in the championship game and junior Jayci Nelson added 10 points. This tournament will surely grow in coming years.

Kellis is now 6-1 on the year and the Cougars will host O’Connor (3-1) on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Salpointe will travel to Nogales (3-5) on Tuesday.
