Move over Havocs. 

Some of the 3A North Region’s high school fans as well as their teams are preparing to bring their recognized basketball brand to your home, Grand Canyon University’s Global Credit Union Arena.

On Wednesday, GCU is hosting a unique event featuring the Native American boys and girls basketball programs of Ganado and Monument Valley. The Havocs, GCU’s rowdy student section, help fill their arena with fans and ear ringing energy. 

But the North Region’s fans are also well known for filling arenas. Billed as the 3A North Takeover, Ganado and Monument Valley’s teams will meet on Wednesday in regular season scheduled games but at GCU for likely the first time.

The programs will open and close a triple-header that will also feature GCU’s women’s basketball team and Mountain West Conference defending champ UNLV. GCU’s VIP treatment for Ganado and Monument Valley will include a greet and meet with GCU’s team, a tour of the arena’s locker teams and a GCU-UNLV halftime recognition. 

“I want to thank Grand Canyon University for making the effort to promote and uplift Native American athletes,” said Jason Amador, a GCU men’s basketball player development specialist and former Parker High Rez basketball player. “It’s truly amazing to see the next generation of talent get the opportunity to play in a college arena like this. I’m excited to meet the kids from Ganado and Monument Valley, cheer them on and hopefully inspire them to continue chasing their dreams off the court. GCU’s commitment to supporting Native communities is something special, and I’m proud to be a part of it."

Just for $6, fans can watch all three games, starting at 2:30 p.m.

GCU will also have carnival rides for kids and a free concession voucher for the first 2,500 fans attending GCU’s game.
