Aquille Carr hits floor at adidas Eurocamp
June 8, 2013 by MaxPreps, AZPreps365
Aquille Carr of Princeton Day Academy (Lanham, Md.) is the only known 2013 basketball prospect from the United States attempting to pursue a professional career without going the college route.
Carr, a 5-foot-7 highlight waiting to happen and native of Baltimore, took the first big step toward that goal Saturday at the adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy.
Last year's event was attended by over 250 NBA and European general managers, scouts and team personnel.
Eurocamp is considered one of the premier showcases for pro basketball hopefuls outside the United States. Past participants include Danilo Gallinari, Serge Ibaka, Andrea Bargnani and Nicolas Batum.
Lucas Nogueira, a 7-foot center from Brazil, is among the top prospects in attendance this year. Nogueira is projected as a Top 20 pick in the latest mock draft by NBADraft.net.
MaxPreps detailed the path that led Carr to Europe in this story last month.
Carr averaged 27.6 points per game as a senior at Princeton Day Academy but was held in check in his first game Saturday at Eurocamp, scoring just three points in 15 minutes of action. He also recorded three assists and two steals while committing just one turnover.
Among his teammates in Italy is Australian guard Dante Exum, a target for several top NCAA programs, including Indiana.
Carr isn't the only American player in attendance. There is also a team of rising high school seniors that includes Ahmaad Rorie of Montverde Academy (Fla.), Victor Law of St. Rita (Chicago), UNLV verbal commitment Dwayne Morgan of St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) and Zylan Cheatham of Westwind Prep Academy (Phoenix).
