Moquin, Souto, Brandts, Kennard and Earley Selected as MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For their outstanding performances during games occurring over May 27-June 2, Jordyn Moquin of Southington (Southington, Conn.) High School, Chelsie Souto of Northeast Bradford (Rome, Pa.) High School, Taylor Brandts of King George (King George, Va.) High School, Alyssa Kennard of Magoffin County (Salyersville, Ky.) High School and Megan Earley of Ferndale (Ferndale, Calif.) High School have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week.

EAST REGION: A senior pitcher for the Blue Knights, Moquin posted a perfect 3-0 mark from the circle last week with a 0.33 ERA, a no-hitter and 12 strikeouts over 21 innings of work. She was at her best during a 7-0 victory over Shelton (Conn.), facing just one batter over the minimum and striking out four while tossing her sixth no-hitter of the season. For the year she boasts a 22-1 overall record with a 0.42 ERA and 132 strikeouts over 134 frames of effort.

NORTH REGION: A junior for the Panthers, Souto was 2-0 in the circle with a 0.00 ERA and 14 K's over 14 innings, while also hitting .500 (3-for-6) at the plate. She fired a no-hitter during a 7-0 win over Bloomsburg (Pa.) and allowed just one hit over her 14 total frames for the week. Overall for the year Souto has struck out 194 batters in 146.2 frames and owns a .389 batting average.

SOUTH REGION: A senior pitcher/shortstop for the Foxes, Brandts tallied a 3-0 mark with a 1.33 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 21 innings while batting .300 (3-for-10) with two runs scored, a triple and three RBIs. Her finest effort of the week came against New Kent (Va.) as she fired her second no-hitter of the season in a 1-0 victory while striking out 13. For the year she boasts a perfect 18-0 record with a 1.13 ERA and 200 K's over 124 frames while also hitting .459 with 16 RBIs.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGION: A junior catcher/first baseman for the Hornets, Kennard hit .750 (9-for-12) at the dish last week with a double, two triples and nine RBIs while her squad posted a 3-0 record. Her top effort came in an 18-2 victory over Belfry (Ky.) as she went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, two triples and four RBIs. For the season she is hitting .361 overall with seven two-baggers, two triples and 24 RBIs.

WEST REGION: A junior pitcher/center fielder for the Wildcats, Earley hit .667 at the plate (6-for-9) with three runs scored, a double and eight RBIs, also posting a 2-0 mark from the circle to go along with a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts over eight frames while permitting just two total hits. In a 24-0 rout of Anderson Valley (Calif.), she was 3-for-5 with a double and six RBIs while firing three innings of shutout ball. On the season Earley is 17-4 with a 2.58 ERA and 107 K's over 124.2 frames while batting .512 with 15 doubles and 40 RBIs.

During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
