Perkins and Smith as MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Junior pitcher/first baseman Tori Perkins (Tate (Cantonment, Fla.) H.S.) and sophomore infielder/pitcher Makayla Smith (Princeton (Princeton, Texas) H.S.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over Feb. 17-23.
South Region
Perkins batted at a .471 clip for the Aggies last week with eight runs scored, a double, a HR and six RBIs, while also adding a 3-0 pitching mark with a 1.26 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 16.2 innings of work. She was 3-for-4 at the dish with three tallies, a pair of RBIs and also tossed 2.2 frames during a 23-4 rout of Killian (Fla.). Perkins also struck out seven in complete-game victories over Westminster Christian (Fla.) and Leon (Fla.). For the year she is hitting .481 overall with nine runs scored and eight RBIs, while in possession of a perfect 5-0 mark from the circle with a 0.76 ERA and 41 K's over 27.2 frames.
South Central Region
During Princeton's opening contests of the 2014 campaign, Smith led the way at the plate, hitting a staggering .905 overall (19-for-21) with 15 runs scored, six doubles, three HR's and 17 RBIs, while reaching base in 21-of-23 total plate appearances. Included were five perfect efforts at the dish for the Panthers, including a 4-for-4 performance with three tallies, two doubles and four RBIs in a 14-2 win over Tascosa (Texas) and a 3-for-3 effort with three runs, a double, a HR and three RBIs during a 16-2 rout of MacArthur (Texas).

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions (if there are enough nominations to consider). During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
MaxPreps is a free stat tool that is available to high school coaches across the country and is one of the most recognized and respected high school athletics web sites on the internet. Coaches who enter their team's stats on Max Preps will not only be nominating their players for this award, but they will be getting their team's information out to thousands of high school sports fans, as well as college coaches across the country.
