MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for February 23, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore pitcher Amy Woodham of Slocomb (Slocomb, Ala.), sophomore pitcher Shelbi Sunseri of Santa Fe (Santa Fe, Texas) and junior shortstop Lindsey Steverson of Red Mountain (Mesa, Ariz.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played Feb. 23-March 1.
South
Woodham went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and batted .500 (5-10) as she keyed Slocomb to a 4-0 week. In the circle, she opened the week striking out 18 in a complete-game four-hit shutout of Cottonwood. Woodham also provided four innings of one-hit, six-strikeout ball in a combined shutout (2-0) of Trinity Presbyterian. She completed her week striking out eight, while surrendering an unearned run on three hits in five innings against Tallassee. The sophomore added a little offense, which included a 2-for-2 showing with a home run three RBI and three runs vs. Central of Coosa County. For the week, she struck out 32 and allowed eight hits in 16 innings of work in the circle and added two doubles, a long ball, four RBI and five runs scored at the plate for the Red Tops.
South Central
Sunseri twirled a pair of complete-game gems, including a no-hitter, with 30 strikeouts last week for the Indians. She struck out 16 and hit three batters as she held Morton Ranch High School hitless over seven innings. In her first start of the week, she stymied Sweeny High School, holding them to just two hits and striking out 14 in a 4-0 victory. In addition, she helped herself out at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. For the week she held her opponents to a .045 batting average, while recording a .500 (4-8) average with two doubles and three RBI.
West
Steverson powered her Red Mountain Lions (Mesa, Ariz.) to a 7-0 start. She batted .630 (17-27) with three doubles, a triple, four home runs, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. In addition, the junior shortstop slugged 2.000, recorded a .667 on base percentage and posted four three-hit contests. She went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and three runs versus Seton Catholic and added three-hit games against Mountain Pointe twice and Verrado. Steverson went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, two RBI and two runs versus Gilbert and added three RBI and a home run against Corona Del Sol and Gilbert (Game 2), respectively.
